Hi there, me again. In getting my new-to-me B&W G3 ready to roll, I just realized that I don't think I can use the printer with it. I have been using a Personal Laserwriter LS which I bought new in '91 and has been fine up to now, but it only has what I understand to be a serial connection (looks kinda like a slightly bigger ADB plug). But the G3 does not seem to have a serial port, just USB. I also have an Epson Stylus Color 740 (also serial only, I believe) which I have not used in a year or so but worked fine too, and a Laserwriter IIg which I was given some years ago but have never used. The LS fits pretty well in the space I have available, the 740 would also, though despite the loss of color I prefer the LS's print quality; the IIg is too big to go where I would like it to. Is there a serial/USB adapter of some kind I could get? Or what other solution could I look at short of buying yet another printer (for which I do not have the money anyway)?
I doubt the 740 will work as there is probably no driver for it, since OS X gave up on the serial port. You can still use serial ports but they aren't considered standard. Same holds true for the LW LS. The IIg should have Ethernet and work just fine with OS X.
Before you start looking at hardware, make sure there is a driver for your printer.
