I've got this classroom full of sixth grade kids who want to learn typing. So I got on Ebay and bought an old (1996) copy of Typing Tutor, v. 7, which we're running on a Performa 6300 with OS 8.6.
Trouble is, the program won't run without the CD being in the CD drive, even though the app itself is on the hard drive, so the kids have to put the CD in every time they want to take a typing lesson. However, experience has shown that CDs that get handled a lot don't last very long in this classroom. So, I decided to make a backup copy of the original CD, and when that one wears out I'll make another, and meanwhile the original can reside safely in a desk drawer. But, my backup won't work. I made it by using Disk Copy and chose "create image from disk" under the Image menu, and then burned the resulting disk image onto a CD with Toast 4.1.2. But the Typing Tutor program doesn't recognize it. It keeps asking for the CD to be inserted in the drive, even though the copy is already in there. It wants the original. So, what did I do wrong? If that's not the right way to make a working copy of a CD, then how should I do it? I made the copy at home on a G4 running OS 9.2.2, although we're trying to run it on the Performa 6300 running 8.6-maybe that's part of the problem? Any advice appreciated!
