Hi Mark
Thanks for the reply/info.

Fortunately I didn't notice this drop. Just an amateur wanting to avoid
another processor purchase in another few years...but I'm learning fast.

So I will try that. What I did do is put the old processor back in and found
it starts up fine to 10.3.3. So I checked and it can go to and OS 9
application just fine. I upgraded my retrospect express and am doing a full
HD duplicate to my ext firewire HD...still in progress. (I had most of the
good stuff backed up already). I'm hoping to put in a 60 GB Maxtor
DiamondMax 7200rpm ATA 133 drive and replace the CDR with the Lite on
CDR/RW. And my plans are to get that all going before putting the sonnet Zif
back in.

I'm not good with the terminology but think that you are asking about the
current hard drive that I usually start up on? It's the original 6G drive
(rev 1) described in my profiler report as ATA hard drive (Bus internal
ATA). This B&W was purchased in Feb 99 and originally had (and is now using)
a 300 mHz processor. Usually it's not listed on the B&W spec sheets...

I don't know what other things it might have different that may be
responsible for this craziness with the sonnet zif. I wonder if this will
affect my other improvements (HD and CD rw replacements). I'm pretty sure I
don't have to read up on slave/master configurations and plan to just
replace the 6G.
