How do I get rid of this on startup? I do not see anything in the system prefs or the TextEdit prefs. Maybe I missed something.
The file ".DS_Store" can exist in any and every folder, but it's normally invisible. In OS 8/9, it means nothing. In OS X, it contains that folder's view preferences. ...bottom line, it can be safely deleted.
Filenames that begin with a dot are special in Unix. They're normally invisible. To view them you need to use the terminal window with a command like "ls .*" Then use "rm" to delete them.
