Splitting the cables, to within about two inches of each end, is a common technique for making these cables easier to route within the machine. EIDE cables (there are two in a Beige) have 40 pins. SCSI cables (there is only one in a Beige, there could be two in other machines) have 50 pins. >I have been looking for what "Rev" my mother board is. I can find >nothing on the mother board that says "Rev B". However, under the >Apple logo is a serial number with a "B"; at the end of it >(820-0991-B). Does that make this a "Rev B" model? Not necessarily. You could have a Rev. 3 mobo, but a Rev. A ROM. I run my Beige this way as I really have no need for Slave support as all my hard drives are UW-SCSI. The "-B" on your mobo probably means it is the "B" revision of that particular part number, not that it is a Rev. B mobo. ROM Revisions are: $77D.40F2 = A $77D.45F1 = B $77D.45F2 = C You can find these using Apple System Profiler. There is no way other than exhaustively checking part numbers to show what your mobo's revision is. However, a Rev. 1 mobo has an ATI Rage+ video chip, while a Rev. 2 or Rev. 3 mobo has an ATI Rage Pro video chip. This chip is found under the VRAM expansion stick, the so-called SGRAM. >When I start up the G3. there is a significant period of time after >the start up chime when nothing seems to be happening ...
