Really?!
I was under the impression OSX had to be on the first partition!
Thank you,
Kim

Kim,

Try this or read on:

If this setup is a new and there is no personal data you may find it easier to wipe everything and start over.

- Boot to the OS 9 CD and use Drive Setup to partition the drive. Make the 8 GB partition the first partition.
- Install 9 on the first partition. Then boot the mac to 9 and make sure everything is cool.
- Then insert the X CD and install it normally. Done this way you should not have any problems.

I tried, but my OS 9 CD says I can not install the 9 over the OSX.

You may need to tell the installer to do a "clean" install. Check out Step 3 on this page:

<http://www.schunemann.com/~glenn/help/os_install/os_9/index.html>

Try booting to the CD again and putting the check mark in "Perform a clean install" as seen here:

<http://www.schunemann.com/~glenn/help/os_install/os_9/clean_install/ index.html>

So I reinstalled 9 onto OSX, choose OS9 in classic, which worked but when I try to start up the computer on OS9, we get a gray screen.

Is this to say that now you have an install of 9 on the X partition? If OS 9 is still on the second partition, classic will work but it won't boot to 9 until 9 is put on same partition as X.

Thanks,

Glenn
