No. It is imperative to put both OSes on the first 8 GB partition! If you follow the steps from my original email:

If this setup is a new and there is no personal data you may find it easier to wipe everything and start over.

- Boot to the OS 9 CD and use Drive Setup to partition the drive. Make the 8 GB partition the first partition.
- Install 9 on the first partition. Then boot the mac to 9 and make sure everything is cool.
- Then insert the X CD and install it normally. Done this way you should not have any problems.

both OSes will be on first partition.
