True, if you record to digital tape, then play back through the firewire. Not an efficient solution.
Some older Macs had a/v cards that could digitize video, but none of them are up the the quality of DV format video which is output by a digital camcorder over the firewire. Generally, to convert analog video to DV video you need an external ad/da converter, which can be purchased seperately, but is more economical if you get a camcorder that has a real time converter builit in.
