I interned at IBM this past summer and as I stood in line for an hour to get a security badge, I struck up a conversation with a circuit board designer intern standing in line next to me. He said he has a Titanium Powerbook and loves it. He said a lot of what he does he does in UNIX and his Powerbook lets him do that AND listen to his iTunes library which made it worth it for him.

I've also noticed, in watching those crime shows on cable, that no small number of these forensics labs doing DNA testing, clearly show G5s sitting on desks in the background.

I also noticed, when taking introductory C programming at the university here, that the Computer Science graduate students thought it was "cool" to have a Mac ("it comes with the gcc compiler!" they exclaimed enthusiastically) So, I'm not so sure that "everyone" sees Mac users as "poofs" (unfortunate choice of words).

My experience has been that curious Mac users have much more cross-platform savvy than curious PC users (but both platforms have users who aren't interested in looking under the hood).

Non-technical, arti-farty poofs

(the last word being English as opposed to American)

It doesn't apply to me as I am an engineer and 100%
heterosexual, but I live with this at work where I am
the sole Mac user (by choice).

There is a world outside our little Mac-world and it's
rather big...
