Remember hard drive prices? I paid $1500 for a 300MB 5.25 inch drive for my IIfx. Remember when the first Gigabyte drives came out? $1 per megabyte?
The first file server we had at the College had this *gigantic* 1 Gigabyte drive. We never thought we'd fill it up (and in the era of Word Perfect for DOS, this wasn't a totally absurd thought).
IIRC it costs us nearly $2k and was this huge full-height 5 1/4" device.
Two points:
Last week I saw a 1GB usb memory stick for $99.
Last week we also got our new RAID boxes: 2 1.3 terabyte RAIDS...we're under NO illusions this time, we KNOW we're going to fill these up.
