All they're lacking is a good set of tinfoil hat plans. These people shouldn't be using e-mail or the internet at all if they're so concerned. This is stuff by people who believe Hollyweird and stuff like 'Enemy of the State'.
Are you aware of how specific a google search can be? Imagine that engine
purusing your email.
It would get mightily confused, as I am on a number of mailing lists including some PBEM role-playing games.
Google would find out that I'm a goodly dwarven cleric who's an ex-Scout captain of a starship looking for a drive upgrade on the LEM Swap list ;-)
Now sprinkle in the vast quantity of spam one normally recieves at an e-mail address.
Yes a google search can be specific (ummm, that's the entire *point*), but then again, e-mail itself is essentially like mailing everything on a postcard by passing it off to strangers in the street going in the general direction of your destination who pass it along to other strangers until it gets to your destination.
If you really want privacy with your e-mail: encrypt it...(something I'm not entirely opposed to.)
Look...Google's aim in this is not to snoop on their members, hunt for terrorists, or plot world domination.
They want their advertisers to pay them money.
If they can put advertisements for stuff you want in front of you, they send more paying customers their advertiser's way, their advertisers make more money, and Google can charge more money for their ads.
Then, the people at Google get to buy houses, food, iPods, G5's and other essentials of Life.
