Now whether or not a Beige will boot off a PCI card drive is an unknown, however, there a re lots of Beige users here on the list, so someone will know the answer. Better to go the cheaper and less expensive IDE route with a Beige. The bus speed would never take advantage of SATA and your costs would just be much higher. Down the road with a faster Mac then look at SATA, plus in couple of years the prices will have come down significantly as more vendors offer more SATA products.
Spending dollars to add SATA to a beige is sort of the "Silk purse from sows ear" concept.
