Hi everybody!

I am very excited to report that I have the G4/466 (digital audio) up and running with the Apple Studio Display I bought on e-Bay. Transferring files from the old G3/233 iMac was a snap with a crossover cable. I have just loaded OS X.3 and did the update. I went to load iLife and realized that the disk with Garageband is a DVD. My G4 tower only has a CDR/W drive. I am bummed.

I have decided that a DVD/RW will come in handy at some point so I am looking at options and need some advice.

1) Replace internal CDRW drive with a superdrive. What would be compatible with existing Apple hardware and software?

2) Add a DVD/RW in the lower drive bay (below the CDRW). I would like to keep the stock look of the tower. Currently there is a blank off plate that matches the body of the tower. Is there a source for a matching door? What internal superdrive would work ?

3) Get an external DVD burner that is either firewire 400 or USB 2. I have a USB two card in one of the slots and I assume it would work. Any advice on what model to get?

4) This is the "on the cheap route." Try and find a used Apple DVD ROM and put it in the lower bay below he CDRW. The same aesthetic considerations apply as in option 2 above regarding finding a door to match the tower.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated!

Thanks
Chris
