Actually I should say I have been very happy with it since installing updated firmware! The drive came with old firmware and wouldn't even let me burn at 8x on 8x certified Memorex media! It would only burn that at 4x. Installing official firmware probably would have resolved that, but I actually installed the hacked 1.18 firmware which lets you burn 4x media at 8x. This apparently only works on good quality media. I've been using Ritek 4x media and they've burned without problems at 8x! No coasters at all.

I was wondering if that hack would work with the pioneer 106's also. I recently bought one from OWC and was wondering about firmware updates and have looked around on the internet but was confused about what to use and so on. Anyone with info on this, please email me directly if you like.
