Hi everybody!
1) Replace internal CDRW drive with a superdrive. What would be compatible with existing Apple hardware and software?
Check out the xlr8yourmac drive compatibility database at http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso for a full list and reviews of various drives
2) Add a DVD/RW in the lower drive bay (below the CDRW). I would like to keep the stock look of the tower. Currently there is a blank off plate that matches the body of the tower. Is there a source for a matching door? What internal superdrive would work ?
4) This is the "on the cheap route." Try and find a used Apple DVD ROM and put it in the lower bay below he CDRW. The same aesthetic considerations apply as in option 2 above regarding finding a door to match the tower.
The lower bay in DA towers will only hold a 3.5" drive, like a zip, NOT a 5.25" DVD drive without MAJOR SURGERY (plastic and metal working).
3) Get an external DVD burner that is either firewire 400 or USB 2. I have a USB two card in one of the slots and I assume it would work. Any advice on what model to get?
While you can install from an external drive, the iApps, iirc, will not see an external drive without some hacking.
