1. Confirmation in general: I think I recall someone saying here that
short of tall RAM sticks since they don't fit, anything from of a Beige
MT will work in a Beige DT. Is this true?
Yes, that is right. And if you cut off the fan shroud in a beige DT,
you can fit the taller ram stick in, JUST WATCH OUT FOR YOUR FINGERS.
2. My Beige DT was a Rev 3. Can the Rev 3 ROM from my Beige be
transplanted to the MT mobo?
Yep, no problems.
3. He also found an AV card in this MT and we talked about the idea
that
since a good deal of my music collection is on cassette tape (I'd only
recently gotten iTunes for my Beige a couple of months ago), if I had
an
AV card, maybe I could convert the music on these tapes to MP3 and play
them on iTunes. So, will an AV card pulled from a MT work in a DT and
will this make me capable of turning some of my cassette albums into
MP3s?
IIRC, the av card is not supported in OS X, just 9. Since you run 9,
iirc, it should work but I do not know what software is needed.
Audacity is available for OS 9 at
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac
and is free and MAY work with the av card
4. What other hardware -- and software -- is necessary to turn songs
from
cassette tapes to MP3s? Oh yeah...OS 9.2.2 and hopefully freeware, too.
;-)
I am SLOWLY ripping my lps and tapes in OS X using the iMic from
griffin. It plugs into a usb port and if you use Audacity you can save
the file as an AIFF i think, then import it into itunes and convert to
MP3 from there if you like. I am keeping all my ripped lps in aiff
format to preserve the sound quality as much as possible. Just
remember that aiffs take a lot of disk space. For example, Kate Bush's
lp The Dreaming which is about 40 minutes takes up 443MB of disk space
as an AIFF.
