1. Confirmation in general: I think I recall someone saying here that
short of tall RAM sticks since they don't fit, anything from of a Beige
MT will work in a Beige DT. Is this true?

Yes. They were just different cases. The one exception is the Power supply. The PS in the DT is a custom Mac unit, and the DT was a standard PC/ ATX job. There is a jumper that needs to be set if switching those.

Specifically, my bf found a motherboard from a MT with an 83 Grackle
which physically fits in a DT, plus, he says all the 83 Grackles he runs
across come out of MTs, not DTs. Which brings us to the relevant part of
the attempted upgrade of MY Beige DT: I had a 66 Grackle, and yes, we did
follow the jumpering instructions for a 66 bus and also to run the new
processor at its rated speed of 400 (no overclocking).

2. My Beige DT was a Rev 3. Can the Rev 3 ROM from my Beige be
transplanted to the MT mobo?

Again yes.

3. He also found an AV card in this MT and we talked about the idea that
since a good deal of my music collection is on cassette tape (I'd only
recently gotten iTunes for my Beige a couple of months ago), if I had an
AV card, maybe I could convert the music on these tapes to MP3 and play
them on iTunes. So, will an AV card pulled from a MT work in a DT and
will this make me capable of turning some of my cassette albums into MP3s?

Yep.

4. What other hardware -- and software -- is necessary to turn songs from
cassette tapes to MP3s? Oh yeah...OS 9.2.2 and hopefully freeware, too.
;-)

Oh god. I have been away from classic for so long, I'm not sure what freeware might still be about. The only hard ware you'll need is a set of RCA stereo cables (phono plugs) and , of course, a tape deck.

Mikeal
