DCE vs DTE speed. The old scripts let the modem report DTE - the speed between the modem and the Mac, which was always the same, instead of DCE - the speed of the carrier. I used to hack the scripts to fix that. LOL. I wrote tailored scripts and such for several apps, back in the day. We did that - we had scripts that turned on all the features and we had scripts that disabled some on certain model modems. If your phone line is noisy, sometime it helps to lock things down a bit.
