G4 Mac Mini, PM7500 with serial modem at 49333 bps. Using Apple branded USB modems speed is 28800 or 31200 with same phone line. Any ideas? Thanks for that suggestion - I've been using the Apple USB modems with a slow dialup line and the best I get is 26400 - usually 24000. I've tried the US Robotics USB modem and it is sometimes a little faster. But, your phone line is the determining factor. If you have a new enough line, especially a fiber optic cable, and are close enough to the main switch you can get great speed. Where I'm located it would do absolutely no good to have DSL or high speed due to the quality of the line. No cable in this area and the fastest internet, Hughes satellite, is way overpriced. With all the money the government is printing for investment firms, banks, insurance companies and maybe auto manufacturers, why don't they provide fiber optic delivery of HDTV, telephone, radio and Internet service to every home? --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed Low End Mac's G3-5 List, a group for those using G3, G4, and G5 desktop Macs - with a particular focus on Power Macs.
