No similar experience except I had the same 106D Pioneer in my QS Dual 1GHz 10.5.5 that had flaky RAM, and it (the burner) appeared to be going bad ... R/W was inconsistent on some / ok on others. Evidently it was the RAM issue ... Since moving it into my Yikes!, it appears to be fine. R/W CDs and DVDs (so far tested on a few each). Do you disconnect the ethernet when some sort of Authorization process might be going on, breaking the link, releasing the CD/DVD to continue? Thinking out load ...
