I am leary of even taking the back off of the computer. The last time I tried it was a disaster. I would rather pay $25 for ensured success.

Am curious as to why the charge, outside of labor for hire. Power supplies on these units (the QS) are no harder than earlier models; in fact the QS is the last model where the PSU (power supply) is fairly easy to replace (unlike the MDDs and beyond). Instructions are easy to find online (try this: http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Repair/Repairing-Power-Mac-G4-Quicksilver-Power- Supply/2053/1 ) If you've never done this, and are simply more comfortable having an experienced other performing the task for assurance sake, then that's understandable - Quicksilvers are worth it!
