Drive appears in System Profiler but not on the desktop?

System Profiler will show the volume as well, if it's mounted.

If Disk Utility doesn't show it at all, something may be wrong with the drive or enclosure. Some (generally older) FW enclosures have master/slave/cable select issues. Try setting the drive jumpers to Master.

Make sure the drive is plugged in all the way, sometimes it's hard getting the cables put in.

Thanks Bruce,
This particular model of LaCie appears to be in a sealed case with no access to drive jumpers. Any suggestions? Have replugged cables. Drive is about three years old.
