Hi Damien, that'S probably cause you are not able to destroy the ship (you probably aren't aimed precisely enough), it lands and thus becomes the so called lander, as is described in the manual. An alien gets of the ship and starts walking towards you. If he gets close enough, he sends your ship to the other world with an energy attack that makes an electric like sound. The landers can only be dispatched with several shots of your side lasers. Depending on the side he is coming from, you shoot the side laser canon with the left alt plus either the left or right arrow key. To get a more detailed description of the side laser functionality, refer to the manual. Hope this helps.
