I have always expressed a willingness to do music, acting and sound design, asking nothing more than a free copy of the finished game. My favorite thing is sound effects design. I know that there are many other tallented individuals on list, so I think what we need is a page where everyone interested can post their name, email, and some samples. then the devs can look through all the postings and see what he or she likes best and contact the person on an individual basis. This would save a lot of time having to go to each person's web site.

Hi Dark,

Ah, I got your point now. Makes sense. If we want this community to
grow and survive everyone needs to pitch in and help when and where
possible. Creating audio games is an expensive business, and if blind
gamers want more freeware or shareware games to play they need to help
contribute either via acting, donating some royalty free sound effects
they created, or lend their time to giving constructive advice on how
to improve the existing products.

For example, I have been toying with a Castlevania clone for a while.
It would not be very expensive if I had some talent to donate music,
acting, and sounds. However, if I have to buy everything I need then
we are looking at perhaps about $600 just to get started on
development because the music I am looking at is $30 per track and say
10 tracks is $300. Add in another $200 for voice overs, and something
for monster sounds and at least $600 to start with. So a game like
that can't be given away for free unless we get the money through
donations or the sounds, music, acting, etc are donated.

If we had some talented blind composers to write musical sores for
free or for less than the going rate of professional composers that
would help out a lot. Same for acting, sound effects design, etc. This
community probably could help either by selling their services
inexpensively or by donating something to the projects they are
interested in.

Cheers!

Hi Tom.

Well with spending money to hyer someone, ---- fair enough if you like,
however you might have slightly missed my point about sounds. This wasn't
that "developers!" should be more creative about sounds, ---- developers are

busy with code, it was that that is a job of sound designers!

As I said, with indi graphical games, developers nearly always have the
artwork created by someone with the appropriate skills, indeed their are
graphic artists who lend their skills out for nothing.

I have noticed many blind people experimenting with sounds and sound
creation, ---- well maybe those! are the people who could help with sfx, not

developers themselves.

This again, is why I spoke about the community generally, and didn't direct

my remarks specifically at game developers, ---- ditto on acting.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
