I have one of those crappy mikes myself, but you wouldn't know it. That's because I run it through GoldWave's autogain feature, followed by a noise reducer, then a special EQ preset i created called a clarifyer which brings up the trebble and slightly boosts the bass.

Hi Dark,

I know, but one thing that bothers me is the amount of poor equipment
used by the amateur actors or actresses being considered. I've met a
few people who were fine voice actors for a project, but their
microphone was total crap allowing a lot of static and hiss into the
recording or there was to much background noise etc. Not their fault
since they are not professional recording artists, but it is no fun
having a decent voice talent but his or her microphone sounds like
total trash. Probably some $15 to $20 Mic they picked up for talking
on Skype or something, and they need something three or for times that
much for a fairly clean recording.

Cheers!

Hi Tom.

All very true, plus of course if you say needed other voiced monsters such as mummies for which you didn't have the sfx it'd be fairly easy for actors

to contribute, ---- for example all you'd need for a mummy is some flapping

cloth sound pluss a hwhispering breath.

I would also suggest trying out voice actors, since while it is true tallent

can vary, equally there are people who might not know what they could do
until they give it a try and yet do a bang up job, like the chap who voiced

the intro for Entombed.

Of course it helps if the person has experience and a degree of training,
but this is by no means necessary, and hay, just because it's ameter doesn't

mean you can't audition people or hold them to a high standard (I've met
plenty of ameter stage directors who would do the same).

All the best,

Dark.
