I actually was very disappointed that one of the later Zork games featured a
real description of a grue outside of the dark, that is really spoiling
things!
I've been rereading several Roald Dahl books in preparation to write reviews
for fantasybookreview.co.uk, and there's a wonderfully cthulhu esque
statement by Mr. Wonker about the Gnoolies who live in Minas land. Charley
asks what the Gnoolies look like and Wonker replies "they don't look like
anything, ---- they can't!"
That's sort of the way I always think of The Grue:
Beware the grue, he isn't red or blue,
He isn't green or tanjarine or yellow or maroon,
sinse anyone who's met him ends up on the grue's menu
We don't know what he looks like, but look out for the grue!
