Steven King actually makes the same point in It if I remember rightly, that
anything horrible is much worse when you don't really know what it is,
idneed my sighted friends who have played shades of doom and swamp said that
was part of the appeal, not being able to see the mutant humans or zombies,
and Somethinelse have capitalized on that slightly for marketing of their
games to sighted players.
As I have said, I'm not the biggest Zork fan ever due to the puzzles, and
Infocom aren't the only people to employ concepts of the grue.In the Mutants
and Masterminds tabletop game universe for example, the Grue are a race of
shape shifting aliens who live on the moon.
So to me, The Grue will never be understood and always remain mysterious,
actually I would love to voice act one for an rpg as I have a very clear
idea what a grue sounds like :D.
Beware the grue!
Dark.
