hello tom.

I agree with you about adding sounds, both for purposes of making the game's
audibley playable and for atmosphere, however there do seem to be cases
where if you were doing a remake, using some of the original sounds would be
crucial to preserve the game your doing.

Mario wouldn't be mario without the main theme, mushroom effects etc, and
while adding a sound here and there to make things audio comprehensive is
certainly a good idea, I'm not certain about completely exchanging the sfx
for more modern ones.

for some of the old Atari 2600 games like space invaders and asteroids, it
seems fine to update the sounds, provided the fun of the graphical original
gets translated. but for audio remakes of games that have a unique setting
or characters, like Mario, or that audio Metroid or Zelda we're all waiting
for, it wouldn't seem to me to be a correct audio wrenditionn unless some of
the original sfx and music were used, ----- even if more were added later.

Obviously there's a fine line here, about which games need updating, and
indeed how much, but I think both sides probably need to be
recognized, ----- especially when dealing with famous games or characters.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
