Hi,
Yes, the Cepstral voices will run on Mac OS X as well as Linux. I
haven't tried it, but I am certain VoiceOver can use the Cepstral
voices. Though, the new Mac voices that ship with Mac Os 10.5 are better
quality than Cepstral.
As for accessible games and other software Mac is the victum of Windows
only developers. Our major accessibility companies like Freedom
Scientific are Windows only developers so it isn't likely you are going
to see something like Openbook 8 being ported to Mac though that would
be extremely nice. Freedom Scientific would likely tell you there isn't
enough Mac users to make such software worth their time, but in reality
the lack of that kind of software is the reason the numbers are lower
than they might be.
As far as the lack of accessible games it isn't very surprising. Most
accessible game developers do not own Macs, and therefore have no reason
to worry about if game x runs on a Mac or not. The reason why William,
Cara, and others are interested is they now own Macs, but the accessible
game developers aren't willing to switch.
Another good reason why there are not currently a lot of accessible game
developers making Mac games is that the majority of accessible game
developers are not pros. Most learned the basics of say Visual Basic,
DirectX, and Sapi and are able to slap together some Windows games.
However, that doesn't mean they have the aptitude or the desire to learn
something more complex like C++ or Java, or able to deal with different
cross platform APIs such as JOAL and OpenAL.
