Hi William,
If it makes you feel any better I am not a happy camper either. If I had
my way I would pitch .NET, DirectX, and Windows in the trash tomorrow
and go Mac or Linux. However, through my research so far Windows still
has the best libraries, sdks, and resources for accessible game
developers. DirectX is a highly proven gaming technology, Sapi 5 is a
core part of the Windows os, and C# .NET is slowly growing support for
XBox and Windows game developers.
Alternatives like Java are good languages, have lots of features, but
since it is not tied to any single os there is features you are going to
lose a long the way. As I do a one to one comparison Genesis 3D would
really benifit from core Windows technologies like Sapi, DirectX
DirectInput controller support, and DirectX DirectSound is still better
for audio environments from what I have tested.
