E books aren't really of help to me unfortunately, sinse I have no braille
printer or braille display, and would prefer not to have to read with a
synth voice if it can be helped.
I actually have found various starwars audio books, so the situation
certainly isn't that bad.

Well that's fair. But there are also a lot of ebook collections around if
you take time to look for them. I have one that has I think a hundred or
so books, in text format.

Well, at least in the case of starwars, it's a matter of as chronological
as I can get access too.
for the old republic stuff, i started with knights of the old republic and
dark lords of the sith, the two audio plays, then went on to cloak of
deception and shadow hunter.
simply going on the basis of what is available to me, I've thus far got up
roughly to the start of a new hope.
I know I have missed some books, for instance several of the trials of the
jedi novels (which is a shame sinse I rather enjoy that series), but this
is just what happens when working from audio, ----- which is in it's way
as much of a disadvantage as lack of ability to read commics in terms of
availability, especially on this side of the Atlantic (the only starwars
novels the rnib talking book library have ever done are the three thrawn
books).
I'll also admit that sinse I'm coming to the expanded universe of starwars
very late, sinse though i grew up with the films i have only just managed
to read some of the other materials, I was uncertain as to where to begin
so decided to begin at the beginning, ---- or at any wrate as close to it
as availability would let me get.

Hi Dark,
Wo! If you want to read something like Star Wars, such as every book
in chronological order, that would be a lot of reading. How far back
to the beginning are we talking. As I said in one of my posts there
are several different eras. We could go clear back in to the Knights
of the Old Republic era which happens thousands of years before the
Clone Wars. You Could start with something like Cloak of Deception
which happens about 20 years before the Clone Wars and read from there
etc. Either way if you want to go back to the beginning we are talking
a couple dozen books before we even get to Star Wars a New Hope which
was the first book and movie released. Then, from there there is at
least 40 or 50 books that happens after A New Hope. It would take you
a good year or two to read all that.
Plus I don't mean to disappoint you, but not all the history is in
books. We have the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoons that has a lot of
cannon information not found in the books per say. Also some story
lines found in the Star Wars comic books has a habit of being
cannonized at some point as well. For example, Luke and Mara's wedding
is never covered in any book, but was covered in the Star Wars comics,
and obviously became cannonized as historical events in the Star Wars
universe.
In another case Lumiya, Darth Vader's apprentice, shows up in the Star
Wars comics initially. For several years she remained nothing more and
nothing less than a comic book villen. However, once she was used in
the Legacy of the Force series suddenly she was ccannonized, and
became a part of the Star Wars history thus making all the comic books
in that series historical. Since the comics aren't exactly accessible
we are at a disadvantage as we can't get the entire chronology through
books and movies.
Cheers!

to be honest charlese, while I suspect this is the case (the thrawn
books
were the first I read but I had no trouble placing them time wise being

do know the films), I am a bit of a stickler for reading books or
watching
series and films in the correct order.
I have to begin at the beginning and go through to the end, and if there
are
spinoffs or the like I have to do them in their correct place if I can.
for instance, I am about to watch babylon 5 again. I bought the big box
set,
containing all five series, pluss the spinoff series crusade, pluss all
the
films. When i originally watched the series back in 2006, I went on
wikipedia and specifically looked up after which episodes the various
extras
came, even down to breaking off a series in the middle to watch one film
in
one case.
so, while I understand the starwars thing, it's just generally a part of
how
I tend to do things.
I think i might be so dogmatic about this sinse while growing up, the
rnib
talking book library was my main source of stuff to read, however they
made
no effort either to send books of a series in order, ---- -or even to
record
books of a series logically.
they for instance once sent me Isac asimov's foundation series in the
order
of books 1, 2, the second prequal, then four. It actually turned out
they
never recorded the first prequal nor books 3 and five at that point.
this is probably why I'm so insistant on correct chronology and
placement of
things, ---- either that or I'm just being fixated and pedantic ;d.
