Hi Nicole, Yes, generally speaking interactive fiction is text based, but not always so. A person could write a game in a programming language and add sounds, music, and output the text to Microsoft SAPI rather than directly to the console as text based games usually do. It would still be interactive fiction, but be designed with audio in mind rather than straight text. Come to think of it there is nothing preventing a developer from having a text based game with audio either.
