Ah, fair enough, and that does make sense.
I find the hole concept of skim reading a little alien I must admit, so how
much information a person can take in at a glance i'm never entirely certain
of.
For instance, what most other people doing philosophy or related phds will
do is grab about 10 useful books, skim them all in about 10 minutes to see
if their is anythiny relevant to their thesis, and if so read it in more
detail, if not, go back and grab another 10, which is precisely why I have a
grant for a reader/research assistant, and why I've had to make such a lot
of use of academic references and picking the brain of my tutors.

Dark,
Actually, it's less of an access issue than you might think. As a
sighted person, I can skim read the text - but I can't get an
impression quickly enough for it to matter. Generally, I don't even
bother to look at the descriptions on aggro creatures. I always just
figured that if something was aggro, it wasn't meant to be looked at.
If I really need to look at the description of a creature I'm
fighting, I'll look at it early in the fight and completely ignore the
text when it pops up. After the fight, I'll scroll up and see what it
said.
Keep in mind that I do this even though I'm sighted and almost always
play with full blind mode spam filtering enabled. Combat is messy for
all players, sighted or not.
I'll have to think about this. There has to be some safe improvements
I can make that won't overly damage the feel of the game.

Hi john.
This to me is exactly the problem with muds, you need to be playing every
fight at such a speed you never get time for the atmosphere when your
attacked.
Don't get me wrong, fast fights are great, I just get disappointed when I
walk into a room and have to concern myself with being quick on the fight
rather than appreciating why I'm there or what i'm fighting.
As I said, it's interesting that this is sort of an access issue, sinse a
sighted person can just skim read the text and get an impression of
everything that is said pretty dam quickly.
