Yes, the deck gun is your ship sinker in mission 7. I always seem to
torpedo hospital ships that I would usually shoot beyond.

Your thinking of mission seven. Mission five is the one where you have a
group of cargo ships guarded by destroyers passing between two islands. My
personal way to finish that one is to set myself up in the middle of their
root and just chip down the numbers. As far as mission seven goes, I think
the deck gun rules.
