Laura,

Could bee it's too cool in the caves, or too hot - take out the old 
thermometer and measure it in there.  Also, it seems like leopards like 
moisture in their hiding spots.  Is the old one also available?  If you give 
them enough choices keeping in mind a temperature gradient they will choose 
the one that's most comfortable to them.
