The application source is convulted, the language somewhat difficult, and my
background limited, so it would be very expensive to tune. Therefore we are
throwing OS and hardware performance tuning at it instead. The decision is
to increase the I/O buffers (we may throw another few hundred megs in there
to increase the buffer size even further). I believe that will have the
largest impact at this point for the least amount of money.
