Greetings. This isn't a Linux question, but I know that some on the list use WIFI and I have some questions about it.
I just purchased a WIFI 802.11g notebook adaptor to use with my wife's computer with the hopes of accessing the internet while on the road. Looked up locations on www.jiwire.com and found one at LSU Alexandria (James C. Bolton Library). Since we will be spending a couple of weeks in the Alexandria area probably next month I thought this might be a way to connect to the Internet and get our email. The access point is listed as free. Also found CC's Coffee on Highland road in BR. I have never used wireless networking, much less WiFi. Questions: 1. Do you need any special permission, etc. to use a site listed as free, or does the software in your computer automatically log you in as a guest? 2. When connected to a wifi site, can you use pop and smtp to access your email at Cox? 3. At CC's in BR, is anything special needed to access it? Haven't installed anything yet, but wanted to get some ideas first. Bill
