Nice review, David, thanks. It was good to learn that newer versions of Mepis
come with a Firefox and Kontact. That and Konqueror are a great combination
of software.

I've been using an older version of Mepis, but I've let apt take all of the
feeds from unstable and experimental. It's been fun and it mostly works,
though java may have bit the dust. KDE 3.3 is smoother than 3.2, so that was
a nice step up. Starting from a new ISO would be an easier way to start.

The autodetection and use of NForce was what made me install Mepis. Well,
that and the newbie class using it. The older version of Mepis also came
with Nvidia drivers, but I don't think I'm using them. Newer kernels and X
seem to be able to run the hardware too. I think I have the same integrated
video as you do.

Will Mepis run for you without the Nvidia check box? What kind of performance
difference do you see?
