Mepis managed to work the last Dell I played with, but I got rid of it because the screen acted funny the second time I actually carried it around. Other students have had this screen problem too. You don't want to know what kinds of problems my professor has with his older Dell, blah. I'm not sure I like subcards and mini PCI. While the convenience is great, my T23 has not been as reliable as any previous thinkpad. I'm on my fourth one now since Christmas. The first one worked for about a month. The second and third one had problems overnight and flaked daily. Other factors might be at work, but I finally understand why some people think of them as Stinkpads. On that note, the people at Computer Exchange deserve some praise. While the laptop has sucked, the service has been very good. They have a pile of them and just let me swap out the hard drive when I explained that power management did not work or showed them a black no post screen. The one I'm on has been up for a week now. If it starts flaking out every day before the end of my 90 days, I'm sure they will give me my money back without question. I ask a lot from my laptop and I'm glad the people at Computer Exchange understand and support that. One day, I'll make a little slide show of the two boxes I've made to move around my laptops. For the 600, I used a pizza box, blue foam insulation, batting, bubble wrap and duct tape. That worked well for a year an a half and the 600 still works like a champ. When the T23 gave me problems, I improved the design to eliminate flex by using masonite and I glued it all together with silicone caulking. Now only the edge is held in place and there's a quarter inch airgap top and bottom.
