I agree that supermajority would be better than simple majority here. Moving to simple majority seems too radical. Over time it's more prone to building a PMC that cannot easily agree on things. If consensus has proven too difficult to reach for a group this large, then softening it a bit to supermajority seems like a better first step then moving all the way to simple majority.
