I work in a windows based company as a new oracle dba. Having experience as a UNIX administrator for quite a time and working with linux since 2.0.35 (slackware), I had a hard time to learn how to work in a windows based lan with windows servers.
Lucky for me, I have someone working here that loves Gentoo as much as I do. The result is clear: last week we placed the first Linux server in production, a gentoo box running Squid. This is just the start (I've been here less then 2 months). The chief is in doubt, but for the first time he can see that there is a cheaper way to provide better answers to the problems that come in a windows based enviroment. Yet another example is that we are going to set up a Oracle cluster on Linux. Also using Gentoo. Our developers are using Rogue Wave source pro C++ for some of their applications. They compile those on a Gentoo machine too. This machine uses distcc to speed up the compiling. As you see, the two of us ARE using Gentoo on the workfloor and the nice thing is... we are slowly getting rid of windows ;-) Bram & Filip -- [EMAIL PROTECTED] mailing list
