Well, I got used to setting Oracle on Sun boxes on my previous job and indeed there is a trick to it. I don't know what problems we might have on Gentoo. I guess if all env variables are set and the shared memory is ok it might work smooth. Filip and I will keep the list posted on how we did it if you would like that.

Oracle under Linux tends to be horribly sensitive to variations in libraries. (Heck, it's that way under Solaris too).
