Hi - I'm very familiar with the idea of gamification and the charlatan (Gabe Zicherman) who coined the term and promotes it relentlessly. That's just my opinion, natch, tho I'm reasonably qualified as these things go.
In general I would say that there's *nothing to learn* from "gamification" and plenty to learn by bringing in a game designer to help think things through. Same way you would hire a designer to improve design, rather than applying "designification" or hiring a designification expert. There are some great game designers who have some experience with maps in particular. Kevin Cancienne, formerly of Area/Code, would be my first choice.
