This was taken a bit out of context, I believe. There seems to be
caution being expressed that "just any" phone application won't
initially be installable on the phone without some sort of testing
and approval process, but that doesn't necessarily say anything about
Web or Internet applications. I happily run a ridiculous number of
Internet-enabled apps on my Treo 650 on the Cingular network. Crashes
the Treo all the time, but doesn't seem to bring down the cellular
network. However, it makes the device hard for anyone else to pick up
and use. In addition, Cingular supports several Pocket PC and Windows
Mobile phone PDA's on which you can run Skype Mobile. They don't seem
too adverse to my using - and paying for GPRS / EDGE bandwidth.
It is entirely possible, of course, that the first release of the
device won't be perfect for everybody ; > \
Paranoia is generally healthy, but I'm detecting a bit of indulgence
along with the significant entertainment value of this thread.
