I only want to say something about the hibernate part -
I once heard that gerbils can survive being frozen for 24 hours and stay in
a sort of coma , and when it gets hot they wake up .
it is not hibernating but I guess in the wild it helps them through a bad
storm or something ...

gerbils into the wild? I dont plan on doing this, so dont >worry...Im just
curious as to what would happen. Would they breed in the wild and survive or
would they die off very >quickly?...and what about at winter time, would
they hybernate?

> First of all, don't anyone ever try this, with gerbils or any other
animals. Either they will die or if they make it, they can have a terrible
impact on your local wildlife.

> Speaking of gerbils, it would of course depend on the colour of the
gerbils first. Any mutations would be spotted by predators very quickly and
wouldn't last long. Only wild coloured animals might stand a chance.
Secondly, it depends on where they were released. Too far north and they
probably wouldn't cope with the winter time, unless by living in basements
and other places in the city with some heat. I don't believe that gerbils
hibernate.
