Last week I was holding Pippin and kept feeling something on his belly
rubbing against my hand. I lifted up his back end to look, and he
apparently has a scent gland tumor!

It looks like it's about 1/4" in diameter. Last night it was bleeding;
I assume he'd been picking at it, chewing on it.

How quickly do these things need to be dealt with? My local "gerbil
vet" doesn't have the gas anesthetic. My former vet might be willing to
do the surgery, but I don't know if she has the isofluorane gas. . . I
need to call and check.

Before I knew about scent gland tumors and that they could be removed,
one of my gerbils wasted away and died with one. I really don't want to
see that happen again, but I'm not sure I can find a vet that uses gas
and is willing to do surgery on a gerbil.

Mostly I'm just venting. . . I would like to know how fast such things
progress. I seem to remember poor Frodo lasted awhile, but don't recall
how long.
