This is a decision that every breeder must make. There may be no firm
answer, and much of this must be based on the individual.
There are 8 year olds that love animals and are mature enough to take
responsibility for a pet. Then again there are 30 year olds that are not
ready for this much responsibility!
I personally will not sell to a child under the age of 12 with out first
speaking to a parent. They need to understand what their child is taking
on, and commit to ensuring that the gerbil is well cared for.
I have lost a few sales because of this, but I would rather lose a sale than
take a risk with one of my gerbils.
