I agree with Janet. Age does some some effect on maturity, but not as much as some would believe. The breeder I got my pair from has it stated that anyone under the age of 18 must have parental consent. However, I don't think an age limit that high is prudent. I think past 16 they wouldn't need parental consent. Under that, there may be no way for the child or teen to do very basic stuff.. like drive to the petshop and get food, bedding, etc. Not to mention trips to the vet. Many parents, mine included, believe vet visits for "such a cheap animal that is easily replaced" are unnessary. That may be something you may wish to consider.. Luckily I turned 16 very shortly after I got my pair so that isn't a problem now, if any were worried. *g* All you can do is talk to the child or teen on phone and email and decide for yourself whether they seem to be knowledgable on the care and if they are commited.
