We wanted to feature this station (Kothmale in Sri Lanka) and
extended an invitation, with this very sad response. I hope it
triggers some 'real world' help from subscribers on this list - read

Hello John,
My name is Tanya and I was a volunteer worker at kothmale for 2 years where
I worked on the radio-Internet project. I am now back in Australia but I
still check this email box for the station and forward on things that are
relevant to them.
The problem is that Sri Lanka telecom have ceased sponsoring the project by
way of waivering the phone costs. Thus the phone line has been cut for the
past one month. A tragic situation, we had such a wonderful momentum going-
now the Internet-radio programs have stopped, the students cannot be
involved in the Internet workshops....I guess it is all at a standstill
until we find the money for the monthly phone bill or Sri Lanka Telecom and
the government agree to continue to support the program.
I HOPE that the latter option will happen in the next few weeks, in which
case, I am sure Sunil will email you back...it may take much longer.
If you have time......perhaps you can wait and see what happens in the next
month. I think Sunil will be happy to speak to you but will also be anxious
about a radio interview in English. He may find another staff member. You
could phone Sunil on 94 8 350 421
Hope this helps you. If you want to ask any more questions before then my
email is: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Kind regards,
tanya
