Our info also said about adding the area code. So I expect she's got
SOTAP then. So many acronyms!
Does she live in a town, or out in the country?
i SUSPECT MY LINE WILL ONLY BE ANALOGUE AS FAR AS THE CABINET DOWN THE
ROAD, NOT TO THE EXCHANGE. bUT THEY CERTAINLY DO THE CHANGEOVER AT THE
EXCHANGE.
Best wishes

Pretty sure.
BT didn't know about her existing broadband connection, as it was on a
separate SoGEA line. Nothing happened at her end. Same old phone, same
cable, so it is still analogue all the way back to the exchange.
The only change seems to be the need to add the area code even for a
local call. I think this may be something they are doing for
vulnerable people and are keeping very quiet about it, as installing a
broadband line and a UPS-enabled router with all the wiring changes
that would be needed for a house with multiple handsets, and medical
alerts / redcare / etc, would be way to disruptive and expensive.
I was also talking to a freelance engineer who works for OpenReach,
and he tells me that the company he does his work for have just have
their analogue support / install contract renewed for another two years.

Marco

Marco, was this definitely a conversion to VOIP and not SOTAP? Did
she already have a broadband fibre connection?

Not true.
BT converted my mum's phone line. They warned, and gave a date, and
some instructions about no longer being able to dial a local number
without the area code, but they did it unasked.

Your analogue phone number will not be converted to VOIP unless you
specifically request that, in advance, because it takes around two
weeks.
